In February 2014, Shane Blackwell returned to Athens, Georgia, to say goodbye to his biological father. As he walked around, he couldn't ignore what was happening...

...neighborhoods that were once bustling with Black-owned businesses were changing fast because of gentrification.

It hit him hard. He thought about joining the local chamber to make a difference, but then he thought, why not start our own chamber?

Shane shared his idea with a few folks, and they connected him with more people who were just as passionate.

After a lot of meetings and planning, they made it happen. By February 2018, they launched the Northeast Georgia Business Alliance. By the end of 2020, it grew into the Northeast Georgia Business Alliance Foundation. And in January 2021, they officially kicked off the Northeast Georgia Black Chamber of Commerce.
